On October 28, 2022, a significant global event took place in Tashkent – a meeting of two Presidents: Mr. Charles Michel, representing the European Union on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who is the current Head of the Republic. The conversation between the two statesmen took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, because this is how all pressing issues between business people are resolved. The purpose of the meeting was to further strengthen the friendly relations of Uzbekistan with the European Union, which during the reign of Shavkat Mirziyoyev reached a new level.
During the meeting, the parties reached the following agreements:
- contribute to further improvement of relations between Uzbekistan and Central Asia, making them mutually beneficial;
- develop and deepen relations between the European Union and Uzbekistan.
Representatives of both sides could not help but note the productivity of interregional cooperation. They are ready to continue its development, using all means possible.
Relatively recently, a preliminary signing of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement took place between the parties, which implies not only strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU, but also taking it to a fundamentally new level, especially in the areas of politics and economics.
What the Presidents agreed on during the meeting in Tashkent
This event is a brilliant political move, emphasizing the commitment of Charles Michel and Shavkat Mirziyoyev to long and fruitful cooperation. They decided to follow, in their activities, such documents and principles as:
- UN Charter;
- rules of international law relating to relations between the two parties;
- development of cooperation on equal terms, when the interests of both parties are taken into account.
During the constructive dialogue that continued during the meeting, Charles Michel assured the President of Uzbekistan of his continued support for political reforms that define the strategy aimed at the development of New Uzbekistan. He has no doubt that joint efforts will lead to achieving sustainable results.
The parties express confidence that attracting foreign investment, innovative technologies and many years of experience of the European Union will help Uzbekistan become a full-fledged state in all respects and gain political and economic stability.
